Gershom Mott Williams was born in Fort Hamilton, New York. He was the son of Thomas and Mary Bailey Williams. (Papers of his father, Thomas, are also contained in the Burton Historical Collection.) G. Mott Williams became Bishop of First Episcopal Church of Marquette, Michigan.
